These photographs combine two of my passions: nature and fabric. The nature photographs included here were taken in South Africa and Namibia.

In contrast to the black and white nature and wildlife images, I have created a unique photographic frame for each image using a traditional South African fabric. Shweshwe was originally printed only in indigo (blue). The (originally white) patterns are etched using copper rollers and an acid solution. In the 1980s, dark brown and red were added to the color options. More recently, additional colors have been introduced. The designs are often abstract and small, qualities which are important for my "frames". I photographed the fabrics at a variety of magnifications so that each complements the image it frames.
